ECMI Internship - EU Programme

Dr. Tove H. Malloy (Denmark), Senior Research Associate

Dr. Malloy is a scholar–practitioner who specializes in the theoretical and practical issues of national minority rights in international law and international relations. Dr. Malloy is on leave from the Danish Foreign Service where she has served in numerous positions. She has experience of national minority issues from diplomatic service in Eastern Europe during the Cold War and from working with human rights issues during postings and head office assignments. She has represented the Danish Government in international fora on post-conflict resolution in Rwanda and Bosnia, transition and development in Albania, as well as on indigenous affairs issues. Dr. Malloy has taught at the EU's E.MA Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation in Venice, Italy where she was a member of the academic staff. Her writings focus on national minority rights discourse in Europe and the regional aspects of national minority rights. She is the author of the monograph, National Minority Rights in Europe and holds a doctorate in Government from the University of Essex and an MA in Humanities from Southern Denmark (formerly Odense University). She is the Head of the MEU Programme at ECMI and serves as Managing Editor of the European Yearbook of Minority Issues.

Ms. Ulrike Schmidt (Germany), Project Manager OMC Evaluation

Ulrike Schmidt holds a Master degree in Peace Studies/Conflict Resolution from the Department of Social and International Studies at the University of Bradford, England, and the degree of MA in Languages and Literature from the University of Trier, Germany. The focus of her studies in Bradford was on human rights, nationalism, and democratization developments in South Eastern Europe. Her dissertation analyzed how nationalism affected the democratization processes in Serbia and Bulgaria respectively after the Cold War, paying particular attention to the position of and policies towards minorities.
In the course of her involvement with ECMI since October 2005, Ulrike Schmidt has been actively involved in implementing ECMI's projects in Kosovo from January to April 2006. Her current tasks revolve around project coordination in Kosovo and different research projects.

Ms. Maj-Britt Risbjerg Hansen (Denmark), ECMI Project Co-ordinator

Ms. R. Hansen graduated from the Southern Denmark School of Business and Engineering, Sonderburg, in June 1989. She also studied Philosophy and Germanic Philology at the University of Copenhagen from 1994 to 1996. She has worked as a trilingual commercial correspondent and other positions in several countries including Switzerland and the United States. Her main tasks at the ECMI are to assist the academic staff in organising international conferences and seminars, coordinate local events and to support the administrative director and staff in funding matters and relations with governmental ministries, NGOs and other actors involved in minority issues.

Mr. William McKinney (USA), Public Information Officer

Mr. McKinney has been a member of the ECMI staff since May 1997. He has worked in college and university libraries in the United States and in hospital libraries in Germany. His special interests are library automation, document delivery and cooperative collection development. His degrees include a B.A. in History and Political Science from Indiana University, an M.A. in European History from the University of Hamburg, and an M.A.L.S. from Rosary College.
