S.P.I.D.E.R. Web

Founded at the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) on 17 October 2006, the

“Social Policy, Integration, Diversity Management and Ethnicity Research Web�

network aims to support and inform policy making processes and the general political discourse in Europe on the social inclusion of national and ethnic minorities, including Roma/Sinti groups.

 With the specific purpose of researching social policies on integration, diversity and its management, ethnicity and cultures, the S.P.I.D.E.R. Web network will pursue a number of objectives related to the understanding of the social exclusion of minorities and the operationalizing of social inclusion policies, including

• Policy relevant discussion,
• Policy implementation solutions,
• Policy evaluation, and
• Applied research of indicated fields and topics.

These objectives will be pursued through state-of-the-art research published in national as well as international journals and by renowned publishing houses.  The network will communicate internally and with members of the public and relevant institutions electronically and through meetings, scholarly and policy seminars, conferences, educational and training activities, etc. The network will also aim to develop and submit research and other action proposals to the possible funding agencies and relevant institutions.

The founders of the S.P.I.D.E.R. Web network believe the network will make an important contribution to the strengthening of the European Research Area, and a long-term strategic goal that is to achieve the status of a Network of Excellence in the European Union.

The network is currently without funding for its activities but will seek public as well as private funding at national and international levels.
